Nagkaroon ng grand launch ang Gabay Kalikasan, ang bagong sustainability program ng PLDT-Smart at project ni PLDT Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Manny V. Pangilinan, nitong November 27, Miyerkules, sa PLDT building sa Makati City.
Brainchild din ni MVP ang Gabay Guro, ang flagship advocacy program para sa mga guro ng PLDT-Smart Foundation na pinamumunuan ni PLDT Senior Vice President and Smart Chief Financial Officer Chaye Cabal-Revilla, na itinalaga rin bilang Chief Sustainability Officer ng Gabay Kalikasan.
Special celebrity guest sa Gabay Kalikasan grand launch si Pops Fernandez; program hosts sina Khalil Ramos at Dominic Roque; samantalang performers sina Joey Ayala, Rice Lucido, Telay Robles, at Unique Salonga na pare-parehong nanawagan na pangalagaan ang ating kalikasan.
Sa speech ni MVP, ipinalaala niya sa lahat ang kahalagahan ng pangangalaga sa ating planeta dahil ito ang tahanan natin.
Sinabi ni MVP na gawa rin sa plastic ang mga SIM card ng mga cellphone kaya nagbigay siya ng suggestion na magkaroon ng drive na ipunin ang lahat ng discarded SIM cards, pati na ang mga lumang cell phones at chargers, na puwedeng dalhin sa designated #SmartPlanet booth at ilagay sa mga collection bin, kapalit ang freebies tulad ng libreng loads.
"So, itinatapon lang yun, we should have a drive to collect SIM cards that are discarded saka yung cell phones na lumang-luma na, even phone chargers.
"I think for PLDT, we should totally ban plastic, the use of plastic, at least, within our premises and hopefully, within your homes.
"That’s already endemic in most parts of the world, in terms of the ban on plastics," pahayag ni MVP.
Biro pa niya, "Kaya lang, ano ba ang substitute sa condom, di ba?
"Mahirap naman yata yung papel. Ban condoms as well? Sorry about that.”
Binanggit ni MVP na timely ang grand launch ng Gabay Kalikasan dahil kasabay nito ang National Climate Change Week of the Government at ang 91st anniversary sa November 28 ng PLDT.
Saad niya, "We as Filipinos have a powerful motivation to be active when it comes to taking care of our planet. We are at the frontlines of climate change.
"Several recent international studies have warned that the Philippines is among the countries that are being most adversely affected by the changing climate.
"Let us take action to protect our planet. And let us create hope for a better future for our people."
BE PASSIONATE
Samantala, sinabi naman ni Gabay Kalikasan Chief Sustainability Officer Chaye Cabal Revilla na kailangan lang maging passionate ang lahat para maging tagumpay ang bagong advocacy nila.
"Hindi siya mahirap if you are passionate about it, if it is something you have to do for other other people.
"It’s not about us, it’s God’s purpose for us.
"We’re blessed, it’s something we have to do for our future generation because everything we do now, will have an impact to the future and saving our planet is really saving ourselves, our future.
"And climate change affects not just storms.
"Actually, the air we breathe because of the pollution.
"We should all do our part in making sure that carbon emission is mitigated or reduced.
"Yung sa mga kotse, ang daming traffic, we ignore that pero yung pollution, we breathe that, yung PM 2.5 [particulate matter].
"Right now, it’s a silent killer.
"Maraming nagtataka kung bakit maraming nagkakaroon ng kanser, saka aneurysm na walang family history, because of that pollutant.
"It goes into our body and it harms all our vital organs.
"Caring for the environment is really pervasive. It affects everyone, walang mayaman, walang mahirap.
"Maski ordinaryong tao na kagaya ko or artista na sikat na kagaya ni Pops Fernandez.
"Kapag binaha ka, like earthquake, lahat tayo apektado."
Pinasalamatan ni Revilla si Pops dahil sa suporta nito sa Gabay Guro at Gabay Kalikasan.
"She has a good heart and a pure soul. We hope to have more Filipinos and people like her," papuri ni Revilla kay Pops.
Mabilis na "oo naman" ang sagot ni Pops nang tanungin kung handa ba siyang magkaroon ng concert para magkaroon ng higit na kaalaman ang mga kababayan natin tungkol sa mga misyon ng Gabay Kalikasan na may tagline na "Making Better Choices for Tomorrow."
Ang unveiling ng murals sa PLDT buildings para sa Gabay Kalikasan awareness ang highlight ng grand launch.
Nagustuhan at natuwa ang Makati Commercial Estate Association (MACEA) sa ginawa ng Gabay Kalikasan kaya hinihiling nila kay Revilla na lagyan na rin ng murals ang ilan sa mga building at walkway sa Makati business district.
