First of all, congratulations are in order for the newly-crowned Miss Universe 2019, Zozibini Tunzi! Our very own Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray placed the Mouawad "Power of Unity" crown on her successor's head and TBH, it looks like it was *made* for Zozibini.
But let's talk about Zozibini's (literal) crowning glory—her hair! In beauty pageants, long, thick locks—whether straight or curled—are usually the "norm," which is why it's refreshing to see when contestants just let their natural tresses show.
Like a true queen, Zozibini sported her short natural hair throughout the competition. Let's take a look at some of her standout moments in her journey towards becoming Miss Universe 2019:

In her final statement, Zozibini stressed the importance of representation as a woman of color. “I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me, with my kind of skin and my kind of hair was never considered to be beautiful, and I think it is time that that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face, and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine,” she declared.
Congratulations Zozibini for that well-deserved win!
