Over the last 50 years, the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) has produced international beauty queens including four Miss Universe titleholders including Gloria Diaz, Margie Moran, Pia Wurtzbach, and Catriona Gray.
On December 9, the BPCI marks the end of an era as they are no longer tasked to crown the next Philippine representative to the Miss Universe pageant starting in 2020.
According to a statement issued by the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) on December 9, the Philippine candidate to the Miss Universe pageant will be selected by a brand-new panel of experts under the Miss Universe Philippines Organization.
In a statement, the MUO expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Araneta Group and the BPCI for over 50 years of stewardship of the Miss Universe brand and franchise in the country. Recognizing the commitment of BPCI and Araneta Group, the MUO said, “Undeniably, the most prestigious of these titles continue to be the coveted Miss Universe Philippines. The foundation and fundamentals of Philippine Pageantry are known worldwide to be solid and shall endure all because of the hard work and commitment of the Araneta Group and BPCI.”

The MUO added, “The Miss Universe Organization is thrilled to announce its partnership with the Miss Universe Philippines Organization - a fresh team that will lead the country towards its continued quest to share the beauty and grace of the Filipina to the rest of the world.”
According to the statement, the new organization will be led by Shamcey Supsup, who competed in the Miss Universe 2011 pageant and finished as third-runner up. Shamcey will be joined by Albert Andrada as the Design Council Head, Jonas Gaffud as the Creative Director, Lia Ramos as Head of Women Empowerment Committee and Charity, Atty. Nad Bronce as Head of Legal Affairs, and Mario Garcia as Business Development/Marketing Head.
According to a report from CNN Philippines, Jonas previously trained Filipina representatives to the Miss Universe pageant including Venus Raj, Shamcey, Janine Tugonon, Ariella Arida, Pia, and Maxine Medina.
While BPCI will no longer handle the selection of Miss Universe Philippines, the group will still crown Philippine representatives to Bb. Pilipinas International, Bb. Pilipinas Supranational, Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental, Bb. Pilipinas Globe, and Bb. Pilipinas Grand International.
