Remember 2015? Yeah me neither, but it was the iconic year that Steve Harvey accidentally announced the wrong winner of Miss Universe, mistakenly saying that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez had won when Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach was the actual winner. It was...a mess!
And now Steve has once again made headlines for all the wrong reasons thanks to a highly awkward conversation. While announcing that Miss Colombia Gabriela Tafur had made it to the Top 20, our dude attempted to make fun of himself by re-reading the news, and what followed was some witty banter that ended up being a nope from Twitter.
Gabriela joked to Steve, "You're forgiven, don't worry," and he went ahead and replied "You've forgiven me. They have. Not the cartel, has not. They're not handling it the same way."
Huh. A choice! Unfortunately for Steve, people watching the show were less than impressed by the joke. Check out the tweets below, but one viewer wrote, "Has @IAmSteveHarvey actually been threatened by a Colombian cartel? Can someone explain his 'joke' at #missuniverse ? It's not funny, it's offensive, drugs have tainted us with blood and pain. Be respectful and stop joking about it!!! Stop the ignorance!!!"
And another wrote "That Steve Harvey comment about Colombia and the CARTEL was disrespectful! He should apologize! That's not what we are, our artists, our landscapes, our athletes can speak LOUDER."
Yikes.
